Film Opening research! :0

So how I'm going to start my research is first searching up coming of age movies. Also if i haven't already said it, the genre were doing is coming of age!!! This genre just seem like a fun one to do with my partner and we just decided that this is the best pick for us. So to start my research, I will start looking for movies that has genre coming of age. I will look at a few and see which ones really caught my eye.  This was suppose to be a post for last week but time really went by fast and If I'm being honest I procrastinated, But that's no more! I'm get back on my schedule and really make time for this project.

The first film opening that I watch the Florida project. This is a really good film and it fits with the genre coming of age. I really like the lighting they use in the beginning, It gave off a nostalgic feeling. It starts with kids siting down and it seem like their outside, and in the distance you hear a kid call names that seem to be the kids sitting down. Then it cuts of to the  kid calling their names and then back to the other kids. It does that a few times before the kid finds the other two kids which were scooty and moonee. It had very basic shots like close ups, medium shots, and long shots. Once the kid finds scooty and moonee they run off to a place and the film hits viewers with the opening credits and the opening title. Honestly I really like how they did it and I want to incorporate into my film. They also add really fun music along with it which seems like another great idea I could add to my film opening. After the opening credits it goes into the next scene. Im pretty sure this film is somewhere based around summer. Which is what maybe me and my partner film opening is also be based around and I really like the lighting and want to use it as well. This film seem like it would be fun, or exciting but I have watch the movie and this movie isn't kind of not. I think this is a great film opening and it shows kids playing around which I really think grabs the attention of the audience, and with the fun music as well really draws audience in.

The second opening scene was very interesting to watch. It starts off of a low angle of these two parents talking to their child I would assume and they are treating this child as if their young. Only soon to find out that it wasn't a young child but a 16 year old girl name Katie. The camera moves up to the parents eye level and switches the camera to her getting up. I think that's super creative because it trick the viewers into thinking they were talking to a young child. She is starting high school for the first time because she been home school all her life. There is a voice over of her voice talking to the viewers and explaining why she was home school and while the dad is taking photos of the her and her mother it freezes them which I think is also very creative and I would like to use that in my film opening. Its a possibility. She talks about how home school kids could be weird and she gives off examples and it cuts to scenes of "weird" kids. But she explains where she live all her life which was in Africa. and it shows photos of her in Africa while she does a voice over and I really like how they did it in this opening. This opening explains a little about the main character and it gives us a little of her personality.

My genre!!

The genre I pick is..... coming of age!!! Me and my partner decided to do this one because it seem like a really fun genre! At first I was thinking of horror and thriller butttt when I talk to my partner about I realize maybe it wasn't the best one to do. So we decided to pick coming of age. I think we can do a lot with it and I'm really excited to do this genre. I'm going to start doing research on this genre so I can get a brand idea on what I can do for my film opening.

So for coming of age genre, I know that usually these stories are based on teens or young adults. What I know is that in this type of genre it shows the growth of these teens, I'm not so sure on what story I'm going to do so I'm planning to watch some movies that's based on coming of age genre, Although I want to also talk about it with my partner. Unfortunately My partner is out again but I will be contacting her to talk about what we can start doing, sooooo were going to talk about it more next week when we really start to develop the story.

So coming of age is when the protagonist goes from their youth to their adult hood, I don't want to have a film opening of those stereotypical coming of age, I want to do something different and more unique. This genre can be very boring if effort is not put into it, so I'm really planning to make the film opening something different and attention grabbing.

Timeline!!!!

Hello again! So this is my post 1 for week 2.  I want to get started on my Timeline because it seems like the most important part so I stay my organized. Unfortunately my partner is out right now so I will have to figure out how exactly I'm going to split of this project. For blog post I know that I'm posting 3 each week. I think every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is when I post. I want to split it up equally and that seems like the perfect plan for posting my blogs. Although I may not stick to my plan exactly its good to have a plan. I will start on week 2 because week 1 was only one post and it was the introduction

Week 2:
So my plan for week 2 is pretty simple, I will start figuring out what genre I want to do and start doing research on the genre. So I'm posting 3 post for this week. My first post will be my timeline or my planning for this project. My next post will be my research on my genre, so I know what key  elements I need to add to my film opening. It's very Important that I know a lot about the genre before making a whole film opening based on it. My last post of the week will be research on film openings that is based on the genre I pick. As I research film openings it gives me ideas and helps me figure out exactly what I want to do.

Week 3:
For week 3, I'm following the same format, I will post Monday Wednesday, and Friday. So on Monday I will choose a film opening approach. This is when I start figuring out ideas with my partner to really start our film opening. My next post we will develop a story outline, this post is important because we are starting to outline our whole film opening and it makes it easier to start thinking about our film opening because we have the story outline of our whole story. The last post of this week is writing the script which will be very beneficial o our film opening.

Week 4:
Week 4 is definitely gonna be a lot more work, But I will work my way around to make everything more organized. So for my first post will be will be creating a shot list of all the shots I want to use for my film opening. This is really important because the shots will portray my film opening and if possible also create a storyboard and add it the post. I just rather keep to my schedule and do 3 post for each week. But its ok if i end up just splitting up to 4 post. My next post will be researching on places to film, I need to make sure that I can film in certain places because my last project me and my partners got kick out... Anyways, me and my partner Dani also has to research on places because we need to find locations that goes with our story. My last post for this week is developing filming/editing schedule. This is cruel because we need to know what days were not busy on to record, and also after recording to see what days we can edit on so we don't fall behind.

Week 5:
This week is important, This is the start of the filming process. For my first post its just going to be extra research on things that maybe should be added to my film opening. It will be random stuff that I found while researching. My next post on this week will be on the development on mise-en-scene elements which is very important before we start any filming. To make sure what backgrounds, costume, and lighting we want to be in our film opening, This last post will probably be during the weekend because filming after school can be hard sometimes. It depends on what we want our background to be. So it might be posted on Friday or on the weekend.

Week 6:
The first post will just be an update on how the filming is going and what we have so far. My next post will be about the start of the editing. Editing might vary on how long it will take if we need to fix stuff. But i doubt it will be to hard since me and my partner are playing to shoot a lot of shots so we have a lot work with, which makes editing easier. The last post of this week is developing response to CCR questions.

Week 7:
For this week, I'm starting to do research relating to CCR. Nothing much to it then research. I hope this will be the last week of editing the film opening and so I can start working on My CCR and putting all my attention on that. My last post of this week will be about the peer feedback that I got. To make sure nothing looks weird or some things me and my partner should change.

Week 8:
This week is going to be super short and might not even have 3 post, it all depends on how i split up the information but basically for this whole week is going to be based on CCR, and that's all its going to be about. I may have some post on the project but it just all depends if I follow through my timeline. But ya this week is very short because we are getting really close to finishing this whole project.

Week 9:
This is the last week, and basically I'm doing to do a reflection on the final project and then post the actually project and CCR. This is the week where this whole project comes to an end.

Week 1: Introduction into project

Helloo! Today marks the beginning of a project that will take me a while to complete. This project will take me at least 8 weeks to do and I will have to do 3 post for each week. I'm already starting to think who exactly I want to work with and what genre I want. I knew this project was coming up and I knew what I was getting into when I pick this class. I'm actually really excited to work on this project because I get to post about the project, and tell in detail on what I'm going to create the film. Right now I'm looking at different examples of past students and getting inspiration on how I'm going to start this project. My teacher provided me her website of students projects from 2014 to 2023. This has been really helpful to my research.

Some things I want to keep in mind is that I need to find time to this project while working on other classes. Which wont be too difficult, I just don't want to fall behind on blog post. This project sounds really fun and I want to do a lot with it. I want to add everything I learn into this film opening and make sure that I don't make any silly mistakes. if I do make silly mistakes I could always fix them. This project gives me a lot to work with. Continuing on I really think this project is going to be really fun because Im working with my best friend Daniella. On past projects we work together and really like what we make. We work together well and get stuff done.

Music Marketing Blog Post 1

For our project we had to create a music marketing power point/music video. We were provide with a genre and a few songs to pick out that goes with that genre. When are group got the genre rock, we look through each song very careful and pointing out ideas would could create into a music video with it. Some songs we didn't like, so there was no need to brainstorm. After picking out the song we like, which was "something from nothing" from Foo Fighters, we starting thinking how we wanted this music video to be. At the end the brainstorming, we were thinking the music video would be base around a story. But before we could start on the video we had to research marketing and distribution practices for are case studies that revolves around the genre. It was default to find information because not a lot of information was posted online. So our group had to deep dive and look through bands social media accounts and find how they distributed their music and merch. After finishing our case studies we finally started making up fake names for our band. We came up with the band name and made sure it fit the vibe/style were going for. Through trial are error we finally came up with a band name that we all like. Our band name was gonna be call "Parasomnia" and are audience age range was from ages 14 to mid-20s.

Now we had to do some research to start creating are music video. We had to listen to the song many times to figure out how exactly are music video was going to be. After listening to the song for a while we decide are music video was going to be "story music video" of a guy that got fired from his job and goes from nothing to being successful youtuber/artist. which fit the theme of the song because its "Something from nothing". When we figure out when to record, we ask many people to be in are video. In total we had 10 people. Unfortunately when we try to go to hard rock to record , we got kick out and decided to change locations and go to a parking lot that show the hard rock. we film many scenes involving them playing and singing. In the band we had a total of 5 people. We use all the techniques we learn from our media studies class and apply it to our video. Using different shots, angles, camera movement and editing.

After recording all the scenes we start to edit and put the clips together. We use a app call "VN" that is easy to use and free. we added lighting to the clips to make it fit what were going for. editing was a bit diffcult because its hard to match up the actors singing to the music but we were able to pull it off. after all the editing was finish we started working on are power point/ campaign which is the other part of the project basically explaining everything we did.

Representation Blog Post

Representation Analysis

Movie: 13 going on 30

In this movie we are introduced to a character named Jenna Rink. Jenna Rink is a 13- year old girl at the time and she represented as a insecure girl that's trying to fit in with the popular people. Jenna is dressed with bright colors and childish clothes. She invited the popular kids to her birthday just be left out. Jenna cant fit in with the popular girls and she just wishes she was 30. She keeps saying this one phrase "Thirty and flirty and thriving". Jenna was a very naive girl and didn't know what she was saying. She just wanted to have the guy of her dreams and be popular.

Jenna Rink got her wish granted and she woke as a 30 year old woman of herself. She has a mind of a 13-year old and she still very weirded out.

Musical Research

 What is a musical?

Since I do theater myself, I felt like it was right to do it.

Musicals are a theatrical performance that includes things like drama, dance, music, and acting. All these elements create a musical. In a musical a story is told by songs for the most part. In a musical, the story is developed through both spoken dialogue and musical numbers in which characters sing and dance to convey their feelings, ideas, and motivations. What makes a musical a musical is the content that it has.

Content:

Dancing happens a lot in musicals. It adds more to the background and adds personality to the musical. Dancing is a way to add to the story of the musical. It also makes the audience get more engage into the show because its visually pleasing. Dancing is such an important aspect to any musical because it uses movement to convey stories and emotions in a way that goes past words and music. By giving the narrative an engaging and memorable dimension, it enhances the audience's experience by adding a layer of visual spectacle and emotional depth.

Ex: This is the musical newsies and in this musical dancing in involve a lot. The dancing is added to show the playfulness of the boys and gives them personality.

Music and songs that are in the musical are the reason why it is a musical. It uses songs to convey a story without having to use much dialogue. But instead uses music and songs to show the character feelings or emotion. They provide characters a means of communicating their deepest feelings, wants, and thoughts that spoken language cannot. The narrative gets a unique depth by the music, which increases its memorability and engagement.

Ex: The character Lydia Deetz is talking about her dead mom. She sings that she thinks that her mom is still alive and not dead. That her mom might be a part of a world beyond the one in which she lives. When she singing you can really see her emotions while singing this song.

Product Techniques:
A musical performance can be created, staged, and presented using a variety of methods and procedures that are included in musical production techniques. These methods cover a wide range of production-related topics, including as set design, lighting, sound, choreography, and music composition. These are some vital techniques for producing music.

Set design are very important when setting the scene. Without having something in the background to go to the next scene, the audience will not know if the musical is switching scenes. Set design also add more color and nice visuals that will keep the audience more engaged.

Ex:  This is the set of Beetlejuice. This is a great example of a set design because it shows that their in a house with many details added into the house.

Marketing:
The audience for this film is for people that like the aspect a musical like the music, dancing, and the story line. That targeted age is any age. Some musicals are meant for an order audience and some are meant for all ages. It depends on what the story is about and how its made.

When musicals market there plays. They use adds and saying that their selling tickets. Some popular movies like mean girls and legally blond was made into a musical. So people that like the movie are most likely to see the musical. On Broadway musical are very popular but they use print, ads, radios, and social media. They use every type of platform to promote their musical.

Samples:
The musical Hamilton made it on Broadway in 2015. The musical is about the rise of the founding father Alexander Hamilton for his legacy. Most of the music in this musical was rap and singing. The person that wrote Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda) wanted to add a new type music to a musical and he choose rap. The set design, the costumes, dancing, acting, and singing made the musical very engaging and made a lot of people around the world love the musical. The attention to detail in this musical is why its still popular in 2023.

Mean girls the movie was made into a musical in 2017. Most musicals were films. Means girls is about this main character Cady just came from Africa and move to Illinois and is starting public school. She meet the mean girls of the school. But she has these friends that want her to ruin their lives because they did something to them. So cady goes along with the plan because she like this guy which is Regina George (The main mean girl) ex. But soon after Cady starts becoming one of them. By the end of the musical they all went their separate ways. Basically Cady goes through the challenges of high school and tries to fit in and climb the social latter. The music in the musical really shows the emotion and their personality though these songs. The set design is simple but explain perfectly where the setting is. Some things were added and some things weren't to fit this type of musical.

Some musicals to consider:

- wicked

-west side story

-Matilda

-Waitress

-Bring it on
