Hello and welcome to the media podcast, Today I will be answering two CCR questions that are being ask frequently. So lets get right into it. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups and issues? So there are some reoccurring themes in coming-of-age genre films. Stuff like growing up, youth, self-discovery, or youth transitioning into adult hood. In these types of films there is a main focus on what exactly the main character is going through, basically their arc or an event that they have to overcome. In our film opening, there is a romance that thrives on the main character to overcome emotions, jealously, trial and error and other. In some romance films there is a love triangle that really creates the conflict in that film and the leads will have to overcome that problem somehow. Examples like the notebook, or to all the boys I love before have these love triangles that the leads get through somehow. So the convention in our film is prettyy important. In our film we are repersenting the woman that are the leads. Showing the struggles of what teenagers go through growing up, the loss of relationships, the change of personality/mindset. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text. So, when I was researching coming of age genre, I try to see what the targeted audiences was for these types of films. I come to notice that the target audience was around 12-18 year olds. Because this genre is something they can relate to because it base around a teenager growing up and them going through the stages of youth to adult hood. The choices me and my partner dani made in this film was to reach the targeted audience of 12 to 18 year olds. Its come to my attention a lot of people like romance in coming of age genres. Especially love triangles, maybe its the thought of two people giving them attention that makes this type of romance so appealing to the audience of this genre. When creating our film opening and creating the story. I think two best friends liking the same guy is actually pretty common for teenage girls. So it would interest them more into watching the film because its something they can relate to. We would distribute this film to YouTube, and post about in on social media platforms to promote the film and let it get recognition. By distributing the film to multiply platforms really lets us get enage with our targeted audience

 

 CCR 2#

Hi, I’m Brianna Gutierrez and this is my creative critical reflection for my film opening whoever gets him first. A question that is frequently asked is how my productions skills developed throughout the project. Well, when first researching this project me and my partner Dani look through many film openings such as mean girls, the Florida project, the perks of being a wallflower, and others. These were great films to go over because their genre is coming of age. We had to find out genre conventions, what type of music, font, color scheme and mood is needed to be use in this type of genre. I feel like one of the biggest things that really helped make this film's opening follow the genre was mise-en-scene. Mise-en-scene is basically the setting, costumes design, props, makeup, and lighting. We created a Pinterest board of characters in our film, so we really understood what they were going to wear and what their personalities were like. All these factors make the film come together. Me and Dani were confident in creating a film that would be good. We have done past projects in the past that tested our knowledge on shots, angles, editing, movement, and sound. So, we're prepared. We had major setbacks when my partner went to ecduor to get her wisdom teeth removed, although we worked even harder to not fall behind. From the start to the end, I think we got all the details down and really made this film opening come to life. Another question that is ask is How did I integrate technologies like softwares, hardware, and online in this project. Well when filming this project we only use an iphone 14 pro. Which at first might seem not the best thing to use. But it had great camera quality and went nicely when filming. That was great because we didnt have to use an high quality cameras that probably cost a lot We didn’t use anything for light much, natural light was the best thing to use for our film. The softwares we use for editing was a app call VN! My partner Dani actually found this app and it really has a lot of features and it was free! My partner Dani found out about it when filming our other projects in Aice media studies. There is one more technology that we use while making our film opening. It was the blogs! The blogs basically documented the entire process of us creating this film opening. I felt like the blogs made me a lot more organize and help motivate me to make this film opening the best it can be. Honestly couldn't have done this project without these blogs. CCR 2# idea

 Hello! So for my First CCR I wanted to do director's commentary CCR, Basically showing many photos, videos, movie clips of where of I got my ideas from. So I will be answering two questions in this one and the other 2 in the other CCR, basically my idea is showing my face and introducing myself and everything and then start showing pictures as I start to answer the first question. So basically I will talk about the first question and answer it to the best of my ability and then moving on to the next question I would say something like "Another question I get ask frequently as the director of the film is" and I say the question and I start to answer. For my background I want to blur it out because I don't want anyone focus moving towards something in the background. anyways you wont see much of me, it will be mostly be photos and videos and a lot of other stuff so i don't be a talking head. That's basically what I'm doing for my first CCR and the next week I will create the script so everything is smooth when i record! I wanted to do something a little more creative but I'm not much of a creative person myself unfortunately. Although I love speaking and talking a lot so I think this idea will be fun do to and edit. 

CCR 1# Idea

 so for the second CCR that will be answering questions 3 and 4 is a podcast. This wont be any podcast though, I would have to add music and background noises. Adding a lot of different things into to this podcast to make a different then a normal podcast that just has people talking. Moving forward with this idea, I gotten may ideas from people that have done podcast in the past so I have a idea to what I'm going to do wit mine, editing wont be as hard for this one since podcast doesn't have edited photos inputted in. Doesn't mean I will slack off from this CCR. I'm going to make a script for this one this week as well. I'll have to record this week so I don't do this until the last minute. That's all for now!!!

Poster prop!

 Heyyyy! so this is one of our props that we are using for our a film opening, basically a poster about a guy, Yes it is a little creepy but honestly in real life girls will find everything they know about a guy they like so its kind of realistic 🤷‍♀️Anywaysss here it is!

Font research!

 So I needed to some research on what font I wanted to use for the title. I wanted a font to give coming of age or gave off a summer vibe. Something that just fit the vibe are film opening soooo here are some inspo that I got from many coming of age movies. 

So I look over mean girls and I did like the opening font but i wanted to look for something that gave off the summer school vibes I was going for. and of course I wouldn't copy the same font but something close to it but clearly this wasn't what I was looking for.

I look over the Florida project and honestly wasn't my favorite cause I didn't want have my font being cursive, i just thought it was too fancy for my film opening                                                              

  

So the font that the perks of being a wallflower choose was intersting but didn't really catch my eye, although I did like how some of the words look messy giving of coming age

This font was really nice and I did like the lights of the words and how one word had it and the other word didn't, This font was really nice.

So when I was looking over movies I was really looking for something that gave off childish vibes or like gives of teenagers vibes. Honestly these all gave me ideas but I want a font that messy. I look over fonts and these are some that interest me.

MUSICCCCC

 Heyyyy blog, this week me and partner could not record unfortunately. We were planning to record this week but my partner parents were out dropping of her sister in college. Her parents dont let her leave her house if their not there. This was really bad for us because we are already so behindddddd. But not to worry were gonna start recording next week or in spring break, which i know recording in spring break is wayyy to late so I'm hoping to record this week and start editingggg.  So we decided to use are time finding stuff we need that would help us with our editing and music. Music is a big part in film openings so we decided to find it now then later. This was kinda hard to find good music.

me and dani have found our music that we are going to use!! Honestly hardest thing we done since the script. Its actually so hard to find music that is royalty-free. Most websites these days you have to pay to get these music, but good thing in my class there was a lot of good website that were recommended that had free music. We are planning to use this music when our title pops up after the call. We wanted our music to give summer vibes, or something that was upbeat. We had many options that we have pick out, but came down to our top 3 which was Wrong Way - Soundroll, What a Feeling- Hey Pluto, Psychedelic Summer- Opening line music group. But we ended up pickingggg "Wrong way". We felt like it was the best choice out of all of them. Honestly were gonna keep this one but the music might change, it just depends on how our film is gonna look like. Thats all for now!!!!!

Research into necessary techniques

 soooo basically me and my partner look into more techniques that we want to use in our film opening. We found so inspo!!! 

First Technique!

Soooo this scene is from the movie mean girls. So basically one technique that we wanted to use in our film opening. Viewers are seeing a phone call happening with all the girls. So we want to do the same thing but with only two girls. The editing app that we will be using VN to create this. Although that might change if we can't figure out how to use it on that app. We want to use this technique when Sabrina and Ellie are calling each other and when Ellie reveals that she has the info they been wanting.

Second Technique  

This is from the show stranger things.

So for another shot that we did research on is for the biking scene in our film opening. This shot is going to be a tracking held shot scene. Unfortunately we don't have a drone or moveable cameras. So were using a car! So someone will be in  the back on a truck recording the whole thing while the driver drives slowly. We are using a handheld camera for the aesthetic were going for. Ellie will be the one riding the bike, because she riding her bike to Sabrina's house.

CCR Notes

 Heyyyyyy! So I have my Media Studies class and we learn what CCR is, also know as Creative Critical Reflection! Basically we have four questions to answer but For two questions, instead of just answering them, we have to answer them in a more creative way, and in the notes our teacher gave us has some options or ideas. 

Two Media Products

-Create two media products that strive to respond to the questions

Here are some options:

• Presentation w/ voiceover- export as a movie
• Director commentary- combination of director speaking on camera and examples from production  
• Talk show-"host" interviews director

This is a very short short post but it does help me stay a bit more organize. Honestly its not a lot of props, but that's not necessary a bad thing. I may update this post if i decide to add more props in the up coming weeks

Group meeting!!

 Hello! Today we had a group meeting in class and I got to hear a lot of interesting film openings from other groups and also got some help from the other people which was really helpful! Even though I didn't have a script at all and I was stressing like crazy soooo I'm making it tomorrow. everyone help each other out giving out advice to make it better, or to fix some things that didn't sound right.

So In my group I couldn't really explain my story because it was still being made and me and my partner was stuck on what do for coming of age. Although I got to hear very interesting stories created by people. I got to hear different genres as well. The feedback I got is kind of useless to me now, They really like the idea when I said the beginning scene would start with a girl picking up the phone and then its gonna split the screen with the other girl picking up the phone. Which I am keeping in my film opening.

Listening to everyone plots made me even more motivated to get my script together because having no script to talk about was pretty embarrassing and everyone had such cool ideas and I was stuck with nothing. Everyone was pretty nice about it though and even if I didn't have much, they try to give me as much feedback as possible and that made me really happy. I will continue to make my story and have something by tomorrow

Story Outline!! 😍

 HEYYYY!! So basically we are starting an outline for our story!!! If you didn't already know my partner is dani! We thought about this long and hard because this is essential for our film opening and also so we have our thoughts written down. If Ima be completely honest this was really hard.

Here is my story outline:

Setting: In a bedroom, house, front yard

Premise: Two girls that have been best friends since forever, Like the same guy and sooner or later their friendship goes through hardships because of it.

Characters: 

-Mc 1, Female: Sabrina-  14-years-old, dressed in baggy clothes, has straight hair, and is Latina. Likes to play volleyball and loves going out. extrovert 

-Mc 2, Female: Ellie-  14-years-old, spontaneous, artistic , extrovert, ballet dancer, Latina, wavyish hair, very into music.

-Sc, 1 Male: Tristan: jus turned 15, sporty, extroverted, curly/wave hair, tall, also into music,

Hispanic, photographer

Plot outline

This story is going to be about two best friends who like the same guy.  They both go to summer camp and they meet this guy. Both were immediately star-struck by him together they both shared that they spontaneously had a crush on him and they thought nothing of it because they both didn’t think they had a chance with him. They realized that this guy was going to the same high school as them the next year Once they found out the news they both realized that they wanted to try and at least get a chance with him so they decided to create a plan. They were going to find info on him his hobbies, lifestyle, classes, interests, etc, and before school starts so they could find ways for both of them to interact with him.  After getting the main piece of info they piece the plan together and one of the girl's houses and they realize that if one of them does end up getting with them what will happen to their friendship? 

They decide to make a pact/promise that they aren't going to let a silly guy get in between their 6-year friendship but little do they know.  After signing the fake pact, they make a silly joke saying “WHOEVER GETS HIM FIRST AHAHAHAH” and that's when the film opening ends.

 

Film Opening research! :0

 So how I'm going to start my research is first searching up coming of age movies. Also if i haven't already said it, the genre were doing is coming of age!!! This genre just seem like a fun one to do with my partner and we just decided that this is the best pick for us. So to start my research, I will start looking for movies that has genre coming of age. I will look at a few and see which ones really caught my eye.  This was suppose to be a post for last week but time really went by fast and If I'm being honest I procrastinated, But that's no more! I'm get back on my schedule and really make time for this project.

The first film opening that I watch the Florida project. This is a really good film and it fits with the genre coming of age. I really like the lighting they use in the beginning, It gave off a nostalgic feeling. It starts with kids siting down and it seem like their outside, and in the distance you hear a kid call names that seem to be the kids sitting down. Then it cuts of to the  kid calling their names and then back to the other kids. It does that a few times before the kid finds the other two kids which were scooty and moonee. It had very basic shots like close ups, medium shots, and long shots. Once the kid finds scooty and moonee they run off to a place and the film hits viewers with the opening credits and the opening title. Honestly I really like how they did it and I want to incorporate into my film. They also add really fun music along with it which seems like another great idea I could add to my film opening. After the opening credits it goes into the next scene. Im pretty sure this film is somewhere based around summer. Which is what maybe me and my partner film opening is also be based around and I really like the lighting and want to use it as well. This film seem like it would be fun, or exciting but I have watch the movie and this movie isn't kind of not. I think this is a great film opening and it shows kids playing around which I really think grabs the attention of the audience, and with the fun music as well really draws audience in.

The second opening scene was very interesting to watch. It starts off of a low angle of these two parents talking to their child I would assume and they are treating this child as if their young. Only soon to find out that it wasn't a young child but a 16 year old girl name Katie. The camera moves up to the parents eye level and switches the camera to her getting up. I think that's super creative because it trick the viewers into thinking they were talking to a young child. She is starting high school for the first time because she been home school all her life. There is a voice over of her voice talking to the viewers and explaining why she was home school and while the dad is taking photos of the her and her mother it freezes them which I think is also very creative and I would like to use that in my film opening. Its a possibility. She talks about how home school kids could be weird and she gives off examples and it cuts to scenes of "weird" kids. But she explains where she live all her life which was in Africa. and it shows photos of her in Africa while she does a voice over and I really like how they did it in this opening. This opening explains a little about the main character and it gives us a little of her personality.    

My genre!!

 The genre I pick is..... coming of age!!! Me and my partner decided to do this one because it seem like a really fun genre! At first I was thinking of horror and thriller butttt when I talk to my partner about I realize maybe it wasn't the best one to do. So we decided to pick coming of age. I think we can do a lot with it and I'm really excited to do this genre. I'm going to start doing research on this genre so I can get a brand idea on what I can do for my film opening.

So for coming of age genre, I know that usually these stories are based on teens or young adults. What I know is that in this type of genre it shows the growth of these teens, I'm not so sure on what story I'm going to do so I'm planning to watch some movies that's based on coming of age genre, Although I want to also talk about it with my partner. Unfortunately My partner is out again but I will be contacting her to talk about what we can start doing, sooooo were going to talk about it more next week when we really start to develop the story.

So coming of age is when the protagonist goes from their youth to their adult hood, I don't want to have a film opening of those stereotypical coming of age, I want to do something different and more unique. This genre can be very boring if effort is not put into it, so I'm really planning to make the film opening something different and attention grabbing. 

 

Timeline!!!!

Hello again! So this is my post 1 for week 2.  I want to get started on my Timeline because it seems like the most important part so I stay my organized. Unfortunately my partner is out right now so I will have to figure out how exactly I'm going to split of this project. For blog post I know that I'm posting 3 each week. I think every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is when I post. I want to split it up equally and that seems like the perfect plan for posting my blogs. Although I may not stick to my plan exactly its good to have a plan. I will start on week 2 because week 1 was only one post and it was the introduction

Week 2:

So my plan for week 2 is pretty simple, I will start figuring out what genre I want to do and start doing research on the genre. So I'm posting 3 post for this week. My first post will be my timeline or my planning for this project. My next post will be my research on my genre, so I know what key  elements I need to add to my film opening. It's very Important that I know a lot about the genre before making a whole film opening based on it. My last post of the week will be research on film openings that is based on the genre I pick. As I research film openings it gives me ideas and helps me figure out exactly what I want to do.

Week 3: 

For week 3, I'm following the same format, I will post Monday Wednesday, and Friday. So on Monday I will choose a film opening approach. This is when I start figuring out ideas with my partner to really start our film opening. My next post we will develop a story outline, this post is important because we are starting to outline our whole film opening and it makes it easier to start thinking about our film opening because we have the story outline of our whole story. The last post of this week is writing the script which will be very beneficial o our film opening.

Week 4:

Week 4 is definitely gonna be a lot more work, But I will work my way around to make everything more organized. So for my first post will be will be creating a shot list of all the shots I want to use for my film opening. This is really important because the shots will portray my film opening and if possible also create a storyboard and add it the post. I just rather keep to my schedule and do 3 post for each week. But its ok if i end up just splitting up to 4 post. My next post will be researching on places to film, I need to make sure that I can film in certain places because my last project me and my partners got kick out... Anyways, me and my partner Dani also has to research on places because we need to find locations that goes with our story. My last post for this week is developing filming/editing schedule. This is cruel because we need to know what days were not busy on to record, and also after recording to see what days we can edit on so we don't fall behind.

Week 5:

This week is important, This is the start of the filming process. For my first post its just going to be extra research on things that maybe should be added to my film opening. It will be random stuff that I found while researching. My next post on this week will be on the development on mise-en-scene elements which is very important before we start any filming. To make sure what backgrounds, costume, and lighting we want to be in our film opening, This last post will probably be during the weekend because filming after school can be hard sometimes. It depends on what we want our background to be. So it might be posted on Friday or on the weekend.

Week 6:

The first post will just be an update on how the filming is going and what we have so far. My next post will be about the start of the editing. Editing might vary on how long it will take if we need to fix stuff. But i doubt it will be to hard since me and my partner are playing to shoot a lot of shots so we have a lot work with, which makes editing easier. The last post of this week is developing response to CCR questions.

Week 7:

For this week, I'm starting to do research relating to CCR. Nothing much to it then research. I hope this will be the last week of editing the film opening and so I can start working on My CCR and putting all my attention on that. My last post of this week will be about the peer feedback that I got. To make sure nothing looks weird or some things me and my partner should change.

Week 8:

 This week is going to be super short and might not even have 3 post, it all depends on how i split up the information but basically for this whole week is going to be based on CCR, and that's all its going to be about. I may have some post on the project but it just all depends if I follow through my timeline. But ya this week is very short because we are getting really close to finishing this whole project.

Week 9:

This is the last week, and basically I'm doing to do a reflection on the final project and then post the actually project and CCR. This is the week where this whole project comes to an end.
