What is a musical?
Since I do theater myself, I felt like it was right to do it.
Musicals are a theatrical performance that includes things like drama, dance, music, and acting. All these elements create a musical. In a musical a story is told by songs for the most part. In a musical, the story is developed through both spoken dialogue and musical numbers in which characters sing and dance to convey their feelings, ideas, and motivations. What makes a musical a musical is the content that it has.
Content:
Dancing happens a lot in musicals. It adds more to the background and adds personality to the musical. Dancing is a way to add to the story of the musical. It also makes the audience get more engage into the show because its visually pleasing. Dancing is such an important aspect to any musical because it uses movement to convey stories and emotions in a way that goes past words and music. By giving the narrative an engaging and memorable dimension, it enhances the audience's experience by adding a layer of visual spectacle and emotional depth.
Ex: This is the musical newsies and in this musical dancing in involve a lot. The dancing is added to show the playfulness of the boys and gives them personality.
Music and songs that are in the musical are the reason why it is a musical. It uses songs to convey a story without having to use much dialogue. But instead uses music and songs to show the character feelings or emotion. They provide characters a means of communicating their deepest feelings, wants, and thoughts that spoken language cannot. The narrative gets a unique depth by the music, which increases its memorability and engagement.
Ex: The character Lydia Deetz is talking about her dead mom. She sings that she thinks that her mom is still alive and not dead. That her mom might be a part of a world beyond the one in which she lives. When she singing you can really see her emotions while singing this song.
Product Techniques:
A musical performance can be created, staged, and presented using a variety of methods and procedures that are included in musical production techniques. These methods cover a wide range of production-related topics, including as set design, lighting, sound, choreography, and music composition. These are some vital techniques for producing music.
Set design are very important when setting the scene. Without having something in the background to go to the next scene, the audience will not know if the musical is switching scenes. Set design also add more color and nice visuals that will keep the audience more engaged.
Ex: This is the set of Beetlejuice. This is a great example of a set design because it shows that their in a house with many details added into the house.
Marketing:
The audience for this film is for people that like the aspect a musical like the music, dancing, and the story line. That targeted age is any age. Some musicals are meant for an order audience and some are meant for all ages. It depends on what the story is about and how its made.
When musicals market there plays. They use adds and saying that their selling tickets. Some popular movies like mean girls and legally blond was made into a musical. So people that like the movie are most likely to see the musical. On Broadway musical are very popular but they use print, ads, radios, and social media. They use every type of platform to promote their musical.

The musical Hamilton made it on Broadway in 2015. The musical is about the rise of the founding father Alexander Hamilton for his legacy. Most of the music in this musical was rap and singing. The person that wrote Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda) wanted to add a new type music to a musical and he choose rap. The set design, the costumes, dancing, acting, and singing made the musical very engaging and made a lot of people around the world love the musical. The attention to detail in this musical is why its still popular in 2023.

Mean girls the movie was made into a musical in 2017. Most musicals were films. Means girls is about this main character Cady just came from Africa and move to Illinois and is starting public school. She meet the mean girls of the school. But she has these friends that want her to ruin their lives because they did something to them. So cady goes along with the plan because she like this guy which is Regina George (The main mean girl) ex. But soon after Cady starts becoming one of them. By the end of the musical they all went their separate ways. Basically Cady goes through the challenges of high school and tries to fit in and climb the social latter. The music in the musical really shows the emotion and their personality though these songs. The set design is simple but explain perfectly where the setting is. Some things were added and some things weren't to fit this type of musical.
